The H.A.G.S. Collective Inc. is a rural, community-led charity based in Oaklands, New South Wales. We’re dedicated to creating practical, sustainable, and healing opportunities for women, queer and trans people, people of colour, families, and our wider community, through creativity, connection, and care for the environment.

Our vision is to turn waste into opportunity, hardship into hope, and isolation into belonging. By combining healing, art, growth, and sustainability, we empower people of all genders, backgrounds, and cultures to rebuild their lives, learn new skills, and strengthen community ties.

At H.A.G.S., we celebrate diversity, authenticity, and creative resistance. Our work honours the many intersecting experiences of rural women, queer, trans, gender-diverse people, and people of colour,  those who’ve faced exclusion, violence, or invisibility  and reimagines community as a place where everyone is seen, safe, and valued.

We’re guided by trauma-informed, inclusive, and feminist values that place care and mutual aid at the heart of everything we do. Each project restores not only the planet, but people, fostering belonging, empowerment, and pride in both self and community.

What We’ve Been Doing

We’ve already begun putting our mission into action by:

• Creating a local gardening crew to support community members with outdoor wellbeing and connection to land.
• Protecting local biodiversity, including discovering and photographing the native orchid that grows near Oaklands.
• Planning a Reuse Hub and Clothes-Share Space for domestic violence survivors and community members in need.
• Applying for community and environmental grants to fund our first creative reuse and empowerment projects.
• Hosting inclusive gatherings and creative sessions that welcome women, queer and trans people, people of colour, carers, and allies to connect, share, and co-create.

Together, we’re growing a stronger, kinder, and more sustainable community.
